Universal Studios Florida in the rain: what stays open

Universal Studios Florida stays open in the rain. The resort's rules say attractions and entertainment may close because of weather, and outdoor rides like Trolls Trollercoaster are the most exposed, while most of the headline rides here are indoor dark rides and simulators: the park itself describes Revenge of the Mummy and The Simpsons Ride as indoor. If a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued for Orlando within seven days of your arrival, tickets bought directly from Universal can be rescheduled without fees.

Indoor: open even when it rains

  • Revenge of the Mummyindoor coaster in the dark
  • The Simpsons Ride™indoor simulator ride

Outdoor: first to close in storms and high winds

  • Trolls Trollercoasteroutdoor family coaster in DreamWorks Land
  • Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurlopen-air flying saucer spinner

These are the tall, exposed rides, the most vulnerable to lightning and wind. It's up to the park when to stop them.

What the Universal Studios Florida park rules say

There is no rainy day guarantee. The only weather exception is a hurricane or tropical storm warning (or a state of emergency) for Orlando or your hometown within seven days of arrival: tickets bought directly from Universal can then be changed or canceled without fees, while tickets from third-party sellers follow that seller's own policy. Halloween Horror Nights tickets have no rain checks or refunds.

Parks, Attractions or Entertainment may close due to refurbishing, capacity, weather or special events; change operating hours; and otherwise change or be discontinued without notice and without liability to the owners of Universal Orlando Resort. [...] In the event that a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center or a state of emergency is declared for the Orlando area or in your place of residence, within seven days of your arrival, you can contact our team in advance to reschedule or cancel your Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations Package, hotel room only accommodations and Universal Orlando theme park tickets booked directly with Universal Orlando, without any cancellation or change fees imposed. [...] Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event. Event occurs rain or shine. No rain checks, returns or refunds.
